Humanity

Humans come in various shapes, sizes and predilections. They are one of the most varied and paradoxical groups on the face of the planet. They enact such cruelty that it can seem like pure fantasy, or such kindness that they mistake the person for some living saint.

Humans are of average build and height, but they can vary greatly in their body types, skin tone, hair and eye colour. The myriad of ways in which a human can appear is also mirrored by their intelligence and culture, something which has further driven a wedge to prevent the race from standing united.

They also have an interesting ability to adapt to various climates and environments, even somehow thrive under the harshest conditions. However, nothing but lush farmlands truly see Humanity flourish, and locations near sources of water are always preferred.

Elves

Elves tend to be more slender and lean compared to Humans, though they also have a range of hair and eye colours similar to Humanity except not as varied. Elves also have a lesser tendency towards gruesome violence and cruelty than the invaders from across the ocean. Many would reckon it is due to a lack of imagination on the Elves' part.

Elvenkind have a similar body type to Humans and share a similar height range. Not only this, they have similar degrees of variation in intelligence but not in culture. However, the race does have a longer life expectancy, though this is likely due to their unique way of conducting warfare and is noted as something true before the plague struck their kind.

They tend to fare well in a range of different environments, although adapt slower compared to other races. They generally prefer temperate zones with good access to water to see their settlements flourish.

Dwarves

Dwarven kind are noted for their much shorter height compared to the rest of the races they encounter, however, they are known for being stronger than expected too. Despite their height, their build leans towards stronger and more muscular bodies typically involved in some layers of fat. It is rare to see a 'lean' Dwarf, which would be a sign of illness by most of their society.

The strength of Dwarves is well known and has made them well suited to manual labour and even combat. Their ability to undergo such strenuous activity for a longer period has had the knock-on effect of making them resilient to fatigue and even the effects of alcohol, which is why their drinks tend to be stronger.

Banen’Rhûn

With a height often surpassing that of the average Human or Elf, the Banen’Rhûn are distinguished by their pale skin tones, prominent eye colours and gaunt physiques, not all have abundant access to food and some appear thin or mal-nourished as a means of self-sacrifice for the greater whole. Thus their strength is not drawn from sheer brawn but their substantial resolve, crafted by the father and taught by the chosen ancestors.

The Banen'Rhûn are paler than most elves, with skin that refuses to tan, without reaching the extreme whiteness of snow or marble. Their hair ranges from grey to white, where grey indicates age and wisdom, whilst white signals youth and passion. Among their features, colour appears most vividly in their eyes, which can be orange, yellow, or blue. Their eyes tend to catch faint light in darkness, though this varies between individuals and never reaches full luminescence in complete blackness.

The Banen'Rhûn inhabit harsh environments like the arctic tundra and the mountains of Rhûn, beliving it to be their divine homeland. These forbidding landscapes serve as natural barriers against House Elves and Komanali, who show little interest in venture into such treacherous terrain. The Rhûn society lacks the technological advances that would make life in these regions comfortable and they hold no natural immunity to cold temperatures, nor any special biological resistance against harsh weather. While they show greater resilience to disease than other races, they still fell victim to the devastating pandemic that spread when Humanity brought Old World diseases across the ocean.

Amura

The Amura are humanoid snake-like people. At a glance some might look human entirely, having a similar stature, but that illusion would soon fade away upon looking closely. They are often partially or more rarely fully scaled, and where they have flesh they are societally fond of tattoos and piercings upon it. Generally, they are taller people, and predisposed to being slender. The men are lithe and agile, but often shorter than their female counterparts. The women are usually small-breasted and slim, but bottom-heavy; with wider hips and stronger legs. Their facial features can often seem androgynous to outsiders, and seeing as many cannot grow hair through scale patches, wigs and bald heads are popular with both genders. The sclera of their eyes are always black, but their irises can range in colour. Ambers and greens are the most common, and blue is very cherished - but for some, their eyes may seem wholly black unless in very direct light. The Amura do not need to blink. Their pupils are sharp and serpentine.

They can live to a strong one hundred years and seem to visibly age less than other races. Their deaths can feel abrupt, as a ninety-year-old may look just as healthy as a forty-year-old. They have few wrinkles and can only have them on unscaled skin to begin with. The tell-tale sign of age is a greying of their colours and hair.

The Amura thrive in hot, humid climates. Their cities are built to provide humidity throughout, with man-made streams and waterfalls and lots of plant life cultivated everywhere. In cold climates, they become drowsy and weak, must sleep more often and eventually may take on a dull, aged appearance in their skin and scales.

It happens rarely and chances are low, but they can reproduce with humans and elves. The serpentine features are adamant in the bloodline but are usually a little diluted in the offspring. Universally, regardless of heritage, the Amura live birth but do not breastfeed. Mixed-blooded children are infertile.

Turak

The Turak, or Stargazers, often stand a head taller than most other races. Their build varies, some are lankier and taller, whilst others possess a great mass that would put many dwarves to shame. Though their ears are pointed, they are not exceptionally pointed, and further, they are distinct from any other race in that they grow horns upon their heads. These horns can grow in various directions, can be either two, or four, and are sometimes adorned with jewellery and chains. The size of these horns often varies too, and though they grow throughout the Turak’s life, some grow faster than others, and likewise, some elders have very small horns. They do not regrow once removed.

Beyond these distinctions, the complexion of the Turak is almost always tanned or olive in tone. Their hair varies from dark blacks to browns, to light browns, but never gingers nor blondes. The Turakan’s eye possesses a distinct quality in that there is often a reflection deep within when light is shined upon it, akin to a cat or dog’s eye. But, beyond this, their eye colours remain plain, greens, ambers, browns, and rarely blues.

The Turakan’s homeland is far away from Nahas, but even there, they have a distinct preference for the open air. They do build structures but prefer for the skies to be unblocked by the canopies of a forest. Thus, mountains, savannah and tundra serve them the best. They possess the same reputation as the Dwarven people in regard to their fortitude, though unlike their smaller neighbours, their lives are often far shorter, owing to a range of illness and syndromes not yet fully understood, but likely due to their size.
